The service

We host the King James Version (1769) with the Apocrypha — public domain, in the original 1611 book order — as a website and a public JSON API. Everything is free. The text belongs to no one; it is dedicated to the public domain.

Accounts

• Accounts are free and only need an email address.
• You are responsible for activity under your account and API tokens.
• Abuse (scraping beyond the published quotas, attacking the service, spamming verse reports) may get an account or token suspended without notice.

API use

The API is open without an account, within fair per-IP limits. Accounts can mint personal API tokens with higher limits. Current limits are listed on the support page and may change as the service grows.

Content and licensing

• Bible text: public domain (KJV 1769 with Apocrypha, via CrossWire / eBible.org).
• Verse images: public-domain artwork (e.g. Gustave Doré) and CC0/CC-BY photos from Wikimedia Commons; credits are kept with each image.
• Site code and design: ours — don't clone the site wholesale, but link, quote, and build on the API freely.

Verse of the Day posts

We post a daily verse image to our Facebook page. Those posts follow the same public-domain terms; Facebook's own terms apply to interactions there.

No warranty

The service is provided as-is, with no warranty of availability or fitness for any purpose. We fix things when we can. Don't rely on it as your only copy of anything.

Changes

If these terms change, the date above changes with them. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
